Fully Dead, Tara Sharp’s first free diary whodunnit is finished (read it in the side bar or on Facebook). Many thanks to the people who gave me feedback. If anyone else has thoughts on if they’d like to see read another one, or if anyone has suggested improvements, I’m all ears. It was, as I said before, an experiment that presented some challenges. It did bring me closer to the characters and strangely, now, as I’m writing book 2, I’ve incorporated the adventure into my back story. Lady Venom, the hit woman, will definitely make an appearance in the books but she’ll have a way cooler nickname – one that I didn’t invent on the spot.

I was devastated to have to cancel my Perth trip, and it’s taken me a couple of days to get over missing out. However, I’ve tried to think positively and my reward was pizza and the last two episodes of Fringe season 1. Thank you Small Mercies!

While I’m here, I’d like to thank Kat Richardson and Scifiguy.ca for the trackbacks to this site.

Also, I have a new cover up in Friends New Releases. Cory Daniells has a brand new series due to come out soon from Rebellion/Solaris. For lovers of curl-up-by-the-fire fantasy, this is a must!

The first vignette/ss is finally finished. A lot of challenges came with it. It wasn’t pre-written, so I was writing as we went. I found it impossible to keep up the real time schedule that I’d planned and realise now that I could only do that if I was doing *nothing else!* Then there was the added complication of me having surgery in January.

For me it was still a valuable experience. I learned a few new things about Tara and met a few new characters who, no doubt, will wind up in the books. Thanks for joining me on this experiment. I hope you got some small enjoyment from it. I’d appreciate constructive feedback while I consider whether or not to do it again.

Kat Richardson is my latest recommended read. I’ve been reading a LOT of urban fantasy, and it’s a damn hard genre to stand out in. Kat’s book particularly grabbed me because of the vivid and visceral descriptions of Seattle. The city is very much another character in the book. I’ve read the books out of order, so I think Underground is number two in the Greywalker series. Anyway, check them out. I like the UK covers.

I love libraries. Over the years I’ve worked in three of them. They offer a kind of peace that you can’t get anywhere else (except during little ones storytelling time!). Anyway, it makes me really happy to see that Tara Sharp is being recommended by some of them. Most recently is this great review from the Sunshine Coast Libraries.

“…This book is fast-paced and funny with very likable
characters and a good story. The Australian setting
and references are an added bonus. I think it could
be the first of many Tara Sharp adventures from
Marianne Delacourt, pseudonym of science fiction
author Marianne de Pierres.”
Thanks SCL!

Only a week until my Perth – Melbourne trip now. Looking forward to meeting a whole lot of people, including Michael Koryta, Adrian McKinty and Rebecca James with whom I’ll be attending the Melbourne bookseller event.

You can find me talking to Alex Pierce about my books and writing in this Snapshot.

Not long until my Perth trip. As a lot of book 2 is set around Wanneroo Raceway, I’m planning a little refresher trip up there to see if there have been any changes. I’ll be the one skulking around the pits…

I’m slowly starting to get out and about again for the year and just updated my Appearances page. For those too lazy to click on it, here  is some upcoming stuff:

Like your Mysteries Local? Marianne will be part of Crime Writers Panel at the Logan Library on 8/3/10 from 10am-12pm. Other writers include Karen Tyrell, Pat Noad, Anne Infante and Breanda Cross. Registration required.

Signings

Angus and Robertson Northlakes store – March 13th, 10am-12pm

Borders Chermisde – TBA

And of course…. Supanova and the PWF. I will be in Melbourne briefly after the Perth Festival for a bookseller event but haven’t scheduled any signings.

I’ve moved things around on the sidebar and added in some new images. Friends – New Releases features Trent Jamieson’s new book, due out any minute. And the other image set will be for my new releases under my other names.

Now back to work…

Sharp Shooter is now available in e-book from Read Without Paper.
