In September this year, I have a beautiful little collection of my stories coming out from Twelfth Planet Press. The stories are interlinked and set on an island over which an ephemera of spores have settled. The spores change both the people and the landscape in strange and dramatic ways. Heavily influenced by the works of Terry Dowling and JG Ballard, Glitter Rose delivers a mood of tragic romance. This boutique collection is a limited edition.

I’ve long been a fan of Harlen Coben, and prefer his Myron Bolitar series to his stand alones. There’s something so appealing returning to the same characters and watching how their fictional lives grow and change. I’ve come to Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch novels quite a long way into the series, but even so I’ve got that same sense of familiarity and intimacy with the characters, even after having only read three of them. Connelly deserves his success, his writing is strong and his plot crafting really is excellent.

For any aspiring writers, read his FAQ answers for some succinct and thoughtful responses. I particularly like his answer to the questions, ‘do you read reviews?’.

Tara’s been flirting with some motorbikes in her new book and Mona isn’t happy.

It’s not long until the Supanova Pop Expo in Brisbane and Melbourne. If you haven’t heard of it, or been to it, then you should! It’s a fun few days celebrating pop literature, movies, comics, games and anime. I’ll be appearing at both events and talking about my books. Sharp Shooter will be on sale alongside my SF books. Come by the Borders stall and say hello, or get a brand new signed copy. Or bring your copy and get it signed.

On Easter Saturday, Kylie Chan and Will Elliot and I will be signing at Borders in Chermside. It will be a SFF themed morning but I’ll be signing Marianne Delacourt books as well. Hope to see some of the Borders bookclubbers there.

Wordpress is playing up on me. I’ve lost the woodgrain look of the site, and suddenly can no longer alter the header. I might change it again soon, if I can find another one that will work, or I may end up back where I started.

Meanwhile, Tara Sharp is learning how to make sandwiches and deep fry dooper dogs, all in the name of undercover work! Culinary arts are not her strength.

Having fun with Tara in book 2. Not giving her a second to rest! Getting to meet some great new characters, including her cousin Crack and his bossy girlfriend, Sable. All the regulars are back, including Tozzi, Ed, Wal, Mr and Mrs Hara and Bok and Smitty. I’ll be delivering it in just over a month but the publication date has changed, so I’m not sure quite what month it will be out. Will keep you posted.

Once it’s delivered, I’ll be beginning the next whodunnit, so the waiting time won’t seem so long.

I’m trying out a new theme, so tell me what you think. I get sick of the same old format all the time. But this one might be too dark. Opinions welcome.

My new Recommended Read is a bit of a cheat because I haven’t read it yet. But I’ve read all the other Mercy Thompson novels and the one thing Patricia Briggs is, is consistently good. It’s one of the few urban fantasy series that I can stand to read which contains vamps and werewolves. She’s DAMN good. This one is out this month.

And my Golden Oldie won the author a Nobel prize. Kristen Lavransdatter is a sweeping nordic family saga full of violence and heartbreak. Wiki says that her nobel prize was ”principally for her powerful descriptions of Northern life during the Middle Ages; her work is much admired for its historical and ethnological accuracy.”

At the time I read it (my 20’s) I was totally engrossed and transported. Cried buckets in places. Loved it.

Now that the site has a lot more visitors, I’ll be starting to run some competitions. The prizes will include, not only books, but some of Belinda’s beautiful hand-made jewelry; book marks and chain mail chokers.

Stay tuned so you don’t miss out!
