What can I say that can express my surprise and excitement? I’m the proud possessor of a 2010 Davitt award for Best Crime Novel by an Australian woman. What an honour. Presented last night at the Celtic Club in Melbourne by Val McDermid.

Sharpshooter, a debut novel by Queensland author Marianne Delacourt, won the 10th annual Davitt Award for best Australian women’s crime writing, presented last night at the Melbourne Writers Festival. Noir crime queen Val McDermid handed over the award at the Celtic Club, with Justine Larbalestier winning the children’s and young adult fiction category with Liar, while Kerry Greenwood won the readers’ choice prize for Forbidden Fruit.

SHARP TURN

Marianne Delacourt

Tara Sharp, is back in a fun, kick-arse form with an adventure that Janet Evanovich fans will love!
Tara Sharp is at it again. After all the excitement of Sharp Shooter, Sharp Turn sees Tara Sharp’s unorthodox
investigative business starting to attract customers—though not necessarily of the right kind … So it’s a relief when
the man of Tara’s dreams, Nick Tozzi, lines her up with a real job. Something is rotten in the local motorbike racing
industry and an associate of Nick’s has asked him to see if Tara is willing to try and sniff out the bad egg … Tara’s new
assignment guarantees she’s tangled in all kinds of trouble!

SIC Oz have a brand new website and have just joined Twitter. They’ll be tweeting from the Davitt’s on the 28th August, so follow them on their big awards night. I’m heading down for the fun and hopefully might get a chance to meet the incredible Val McDermid. Also looking forward to catching up with Carmel Shute, Lindy Cameron and Amanda Wrangles and hoping Tara (1) Moss and Emma Boling might be there.

My wonderful editor sent me a proof copy of the new Michael Connelly novel The Reversal which features both Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch. And a new Michael Koryta. So excited, can’t wait to read both!

I’ll be doing a mini tour of Angus and Robertson stores around Brisbane in November and December for the release of Sharp Turn. I’ll post dates and times in the sidebar in the Signings box, so keep an eye on it.

Am also looking forward to heading to Melbourne soon for the Davitts and the Ned Kelly’s. Both award ceremony’s coincide with the SF World Con, so I decided I might as well go along and meet some people.

News of Lindy Cameron’s new Clandestine Press dropped into my inbox this evening anouncing their first publications:

Out of the Black Land by Kerry Greenwood

Redback by Lindy Cameron

Dougal’s Diary by David Greagg
