Anybody there watching TV?
My blog stats tell me people are reading the blog but no one has posted in ages. Don’t be shy, otherwise I feel like I’m talking to myself.
I’m reading Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse books at the moment. Coming to them a bit late, but book one is most enjoyable with some very elegant turns and strong characterisation. I can see why the series has become so successful on TV (True Blood). I must get a DVD and watch them in order.
I’m finding TV more enjoyable than film at the moment, and I can’t quite put my finger on why that is. I love the familiarity of revisiting characters. So few films seem to make an impact that is lasting on me and yet the characters from Boston Legal, BSG, Dexter et etc come to my mind regularly.
I so wish I could spend some time writing for TV. What an experience it would be.

I agree, I find it much more interesting to stick with a good TV series than watch a movie at the moment. True Blood is a wonderful example of good adaptation.
Plus everyone loves vampires! It’s very hard to get distinctive mythology.

What other TV series do you like?

I enjoyed Babylon 5, which I watched last year (though that’s a long term commitment!) Really well-planned arcs. I love Dexter and the earlier seasons of shows like Lost, Heroes and House…I have to say I’ve lost touch with them, though I’ll go back when I have some DVDs lined up. Firefly is something you should definately check out if you haven’t seen yet, it’s short but wonderfully well put together.
I just splurged on the BSG box set purely on reccommendations, I’ve never seen an episode! Stargate is another one where you can’t help but get hooked by the fans’ enthusiasm, I will check that one out when I have a chance too.
And I will admit that I hold Buffy quite close to my heart, just because they’re characters who I grew up with.

Hi Katrina,
thanks for the post.
Yeah, am a big Firefly fan. You won’t regret BSG. Stargate never really grabbed me. I’m also a Boston Legal fan and preferred Angel to Buffy. Dexter is cool. Must try Heroes.

I’ve read Charlaine Harris and loved the series. The audio books are even done in the accent you’d expect to hear from Sookie… though the pronunciation of places and things in my head is far different from the local pronunciation.
The True Blood series was a shock to me. Here I was cruising on a lighter, less grusome vampire series of books, then I’m faced with blood, sex and gore that would rival a Quinten Tarintino film. Not to mention seeing that guy from home and away’s butt in almost every episode in the first season…. I still wonder if that was to distract us from his inability to act???
I’ve been enjoying the HD channel Go!…. They’re replaying Moonlight, and the Sarah Conner Chronicals. I’ve been trying to catch Fringe and Eleventh Hour. Bones is always a good way to brighten my day.
