Sharp Shooter is a staff pick at Avid Reader bookshop:

Sharp Shooter
Marianne Delacourt, $30.00
Ok, so I have to say upfront
that Crime isn’t my usual thing.
But Brisbane writer, Marianne
Delacourt’s Sharp Shooter was
a breezy fun read and about
as fast-paced as the Monaro
the novel’s heroine, Tara
Sharp drives.
They’ve packaged the fi rst book
to appeal to Janet Evanovich
readers, but I found it better
written than Evanovich’s stuff,
and, well, fresher.
Maybe it’s the Perth setting,
lovingly drawn, or Tara’s
combination of enthusiasm and
twenty-something ennui. Tara’s
a great character, kick-arse, yes,
but also sensitive enough to be
compelling. She also has a
tendency to get into deeper and
deeper trouble, despite, or maybe
because of, her almost supernatural
gift for reading people.
The supporting characters are fun
too, the villains are slick and
dangerous, the love interest is
gorgeous. And the stakes keep on
rising. Perth has never looked as
sexy – who’d have thought.
So, a fast-paced crime thriller
with a strong Australian voice,
what more could you want
heading into the Summer? Fans
of Janet Evanovich will quickly
become fans of Tara Sharp, the
rest of us, can just jump into
Mona the Monaro, slip on our
seatbelts, and crash along for the
ride. Hopefully we’ll be seeing
more of Tara Sharp in the future.

The shopping centre was busy but no one seemed interested in browsing, so I had a pretty quiet time of it. I did however chat to a couple of interesting people about things other than books eg Obama receiving the Nobel Peace prize, and child protection – so time isn’t wasted when you get to have stimulating conversations.

I’m off to Melbourne on Thursday for the Sisters in Crime event with Emma Boling and Tara Moss. Am looking forward to this a lot, other than the cold weather. Have to get my jumper out of mothballs.

The summary of Tara’s first week of posts on her Facebook  Whodunnit are up in the sidebar under Fully Dead. Or you can read them in the NOTES section of her Facebook page.

I would welcome any feedback, as we go along. And, of course, feel free to interact with Tara as she posts live.

As of today, Tara Sharp has begun the first of her whodunnits on Facebook. Don’t forget to sign up quick to live/read it in real time. If you miss any episodes check her Facebook notes section, or the sub page on this site entitled Tara’s posts. The story so far will be posted once a week.

Also, the Appearances page has been updated with new signings before xmas at North Lakes and Victoria Point. Don’t forget I’ll be at Chermside this Saturday (10th October 11-1.30 pm with Kylie Chan) and Carindale (11th october 1 – 3pm).

It’s a big few days for Tara Sharp. Today she got her own Facebook page and in the next day or so she’ll have a new domain name. The site will soon become www.tarasharp.com. Please be sure to update your bookmarks soon.

I’m doing a number of signings at Angus and Robertson bookstores up until xmas (see appearances). However, the Brookside store has kindly arranged for Kylie Chan and I to be part of an Arana Hills library event where we will give an author talk and sign from 12 – 1.30 pm. For enquiries or bookings please ring: Angus and Robertson Brookside (07) 38551612 0r Pam or Karen at the library (07) 33513401

And…

Spotted by the wonderful Kylie Chan at Dymocks Indooroopilly.

Have never had books in Big W or KMart before – it’s kind of neat and kind of odd. When you’re used to only being found in the specialty sections of bookstores its quite unnerving. Like being stripped naked at your school reunion.

If you notice any copies of Sharp Shooter in your local supermarket in the next few weeks – they should be in the ’specials’ section with Dan Brown. Feel free to move them there if they’ve been tucked away somewhere else! Belinda’s already done that – for which I’m VERY grateful.

This review has been posted on We Read by Maree:

Sharp Shooter is the first adventure (but hopefully not the last) of aura-reading, crime-fighting Aussie chick Tara Sharp, who manages to get herself in all sorts of trouble despite the fact she lives at home with her parents & a couple of crazy pet galahs. This genre isn’t my usual read (the cover says for fans of Evanovich – I’ve never read one of her books) but the fast-paced action, humour and cast of nutty characters make reading this book an absolute hoot! It’s set in the author’s home town of Perth, and there are lots of great little Aussie touches. I loved the way the author, Marianne Delacourt, brought all the threads of this crime-fighting mystery together at the end, while, I’m hoping, paving the way for more adventures for this feisty Perth chick. A fun read, perfect for the beach. 4/5
